BEAUTY | CHANELLO! New Beauty Goodies

This was a Christmas present from my Grandparents, it was such a lovely surprise! The packaging is so beautiful too, I almost didn't want to open it. But when I did I was even more surprised because they were two things in the exact colours I was going to buy myself 'one day' (aka the day I get rich.) It's weird because I've never told anyone and they're the exact shades I wanted...my family know me well!

So first up we have Le Vernis Nail Colour in #08 Pirate. A red that is a bit brighter than what I'm used to but I don't think it looks too garish on my ghosty hands! I love the glossy finish, it reminds me of gel nails and the lasting power is actually very good too. I'd seen a few reviews on Chanel polishes saying that they chipped very easily but this hand you see here had been painted NYE and was still chip free five days later despite going through the longest ever Oops Upside Ya Head dance, a gazillion hot and steamy baths and a few days working in retail. Retail is the ultimate endurance test for nails because it seriously will do anything to kill your mani. And it wasn't just any old days in retail either, I spent a day repackaging/relabelling stock, breaking boxes, peeling stickers (who said fashion was glam?) aka all things that have ruined lesser polishes in seconds. So it's impressive stuff! However, despite all this I'm unsure if it's something I would purchase for myself again as high street brands do polishes that are equally good for much cheaper (Barry M Gellys, I'm looking at you!) At £17.50 it's definitely a luxury, but then again I'm one of those few people who actually finish whole bottles of polish so it may be worth it for beautiful packaging alone! Some people have said they don't like having to faff around with the two lids sitch (the big lid you can see here comes off to reveal the smaller lid with the brush attached) but maybe I'm just a big chav because the more of that double C logo the better for me! It certainly does look pretty sitting on my dressing table...

But as for the lipstick, I'm scared that no high street lippy will ever be good enough again! I got Rouge Allure Velvet in #38 La Fascinante and it's just gorgeous. A darker shade than my usual but I'm quite enjoying the slight change! It's described as matte but it definitely isn't...it's not super glossy but there is a slight shine to it, which I think is more flattering than a fully matte finish anyway. Like it's name it applies as smooth as velvet and isn't drying at all. It doesn't bleed, which is always a worry with bold shades, and the colour lasts a long time. For example, I got through half a quiche and it stayed in tact, I'm pretty sure it would've survived the whole thing had I not been told off for eating food meant for party guests. And of course the packaging (which I forgot to photograph, so all you have is this weird picture of me looking like I'm about to eat it...enjoy!) is divine. Not only does it look gorgeous it's actually practical too as you have to push the base up so the lipstick pops out (makes the most satisfying *click* everrrrr!) so it's gonna stay secure in your handbag...I hate when the lids come off too easily, so messy and often the lipstick dies, so sad. I have a feeling this will last me a good while, it's so pigmented so you don't need to apply much and top ups are rarely required. However when I do eventually run out I won't think twice about repurchasing, despite the price tag being around £25 (a big statement from a girl who lives for 3 for 2 offers at Boots!)

Lastly, I just thought I'd quickly show you the little samples that came with it (I love how Chanel are cool about giving samples, some brands can be so mean with them!) Firstly was the Hydra Beauty Crème which feels gorgeous on the skin and is brilliantly moisturising but has the worst scent so luckily for my bank balance I don't love it. And then there was a little Chanel No5 sample, a perfume that I think is too strong when it's initially applied but as it settles into the skin it calms down and is actually rather heavenly. For years I was always like 'When I'm 30 I shall wear No5' but then I thought what if I don't hit 30? What if I die in some tragic but glamorous helicopter crash aged 25 with my future, very rich husband from one of our tropical islands to the other? And I would never have worn it, that would be the real tragedy. So I think what with me turning 21 later in the year (DA FUQ? When did that happen?) perhaps I will be grown up enough then to wear it.

Have you ever tried any Chanel make up? Any recommendations?

Josie x

  1. I have two Chanel nail polishes - 05 Blue Boy and 519 Rose Exubérant and they're my absolute faves! Blue Boy's running low though which absolutely breaks my heart! I've also got the Chanel Les Tissages blusher which I love because it's tweed effect made it a really great shade - not too pink but not too nude :) it was a great birthday present for my 20th! The only Chanel items I've ever bought for myself are the mascara - I have it in black and bright blue! I love the wand and it literally gives me Minnie Mouse eyelashes but I'm sure my love of it is slightly psychological - seeing a double C definitely makes me fall in love :)
These colours look amazing on you - they're really classic but glamorous :)
I love the Chanel Chance or Coco Mademoiselle perfume. My Nan wears Chanel No 5 so I will always associate it with her but it's definitely a perfume that smells nicer the longer it's been on :)

PS I've used some Chanel makeup before, and my fave is one of their mascaras (can't remember which one though....argh).

  4. You are the epitome of glam and style lady! <3 Adore the beautiful red lip on you!

Must say that's the story of my life, a lipstick bleeding on me & then the lid rolling off in my bag.. so the fact that this is Chanel and is such an irresistible shade I'm definitely tempted to try some Chanel make-up one day xx

I got a Boots gift card for Christmas though, so I'm thinking of using it to splash out on something like this and buy something I wouldn't normally buy myself :) xx

  17. The lipstick colour is so perfect on you, and I agree they are such nice formulas. Since I tried the Chanel pressed powder it's the only one I'll use now, it's the best & though it seems expensive it has so much product in, so it's definitely worth it. I love their foundations too, Vitalumiere Aqua is gorgeous when my skins behaving & I don't need lots of coverage, tho I'm not a big fan of the overpowering scent it has!
