FASHION | #SimplyBeReal

It's the start of London Fashion Week today and I for one will be stalking style.com and generally just being super jealous of all the amazing street style fashion. So what better time to remind ourselves that real life isn't quite like that for most us!

This is the point of Simply Be's #SimplyBeReal campaign...showing that as fabulous as fashion can be it isn't always flawless, which in my opinion only adds to the fun because who doesn't love an embarrassing story? ;)

Take one New Year's Day, I was working and a 7am start + hangover from NYE = one big ol' mess. Luckily I had my new secret weapon...my new Chanel red lipstick (this one if you're interested) and we all know that red lipstick makes you feel 100x better! It's classy, it's chic, it's just everything. Nothing can go wrong when you're wearing a strong red lip...or so I thought.

So I was walking around the shop I worked in feeling all sassy and almost hangover free until I reached for a pair of jeans and the whole pile fell on my head in the stock room. Feeling thankful that no one was around to see I went back out to the customer not realising I had lipstick all down my chin! And of course my lovely workmates let me walk around like that for like 5 minutes before I realised AND I got in major trouble for getting make up all over the stock :') But it does make me laugh and I still adore that lipstick (I just make sure I always have a mirror handy when I'm wearing it!) And now that moment has been immortalized by the wonderfully talented Erica Sharp:

Didn't she do an awesome job? Thank you so much Erica! And I so need to learn how to make my hair look that good in real life...

So the point is fashion doesn't always go to plan and that's ok. I think we can get so caught up in wanting to be perfect after looking at all these gorgeous pictures on blogs and Pinterest and Instagram so I just love that this Simply Be campaign is embracing those 'real' and not so glam moments!

I would love to know your fashion/beauty mishaps! To see more illustrations and stories you can check them out here or search #SimplyBeReal on Twitter!

  2. Hehe, this really made me chuckle! I love red lipstick too, but also live in fear it will end up all over my face and / or clothes half the time! Somehow I feel Ines de la Fressange never has these problems.... ;) xxxx

  20. Love this campaign Josie! Such a fab idea and totally going against the grain of the airbrushed mantra of LFW which is the best part of all ;) I'll bet you looked just as gorgeous if not more as your illustration when it happened, sure you styled it out like a true pro! <3
