Postcards From Donegal, Ireland

Hey! So last week I went off on my holibobs to visit my nan and grandad who live in Donegal in Ireland. It's in the South and is all very green and beautiful, but very cold - I was stoooopid and didn't pack for the weather at all! The whole week was just very chilled, it rained a lot too so most of the time was spent relaxing or going shopping...I know right, what a shame ;) Plus it was so great to be there while history was being made! But on the last day it was quite nice out so I managed to get a couple of snaps for you! There was loads more but they have my family in them and I don't think they want to appear on this blog haha. It's a little photo heavy so click after the jump to read more!

Lots of lovely scenery! It's quite overcast here but if you can get it on a sunny day it's even more beautiful. And because it's Spring there were so many cute bubba animals! I felt too guilty to take pictures of the baby cows though because I ate a lot of beef when I was away and every time I saw one I was thinking 'Aw man I probably ate your grandma' haha.

There's loads of cute, shabby chic/craft shops about, this one above is my absolute fave - I could've bought the whole shop! It's called Olivia's and it's in a place called Dunfanaghy which is one of my favourite places to visit in Donegal. There's a few little shops (a couple are owned by my mum's cousin!) it's by the beach, you can go horse-riding and surfing and there's nice places to eat too. I recommend Lizzie's Diner, I swear I had the best pavlova of ma life! But everywhere you go you're gonna get a nice meal, I don't think I've ever been disappointed with a meal out in Donegal. I think it's because so much of the food is produced locally too. My favourite meal (after my Nanny's roast, obvs) was a beef and Guinness stew - mm, mmmm.

I'm sorry there's not as much to show you as I was hoping but I wasn't really thinking about the blog, it was all about relaxing with my nan and grandad. I was planning to get some ootd's out there but I wore the same jeans every day - it's ok, you can totally judge me. I do have a mini haul to show you though because I may have popped into Topshop and Penney's...But if you'd like to see more of Donegal I've done a post on my last trip!

Oh and by the way, because I've been ill (typing this up now wearing oxygen and waiting to start IVs next week) I got special assistance at the airport because the walk to the gate is long and uphill. I was thinking I was gonna be mortified being in a wheelchair and was thinking everyone would stare at me but it wasn't like that at all, everyone was super kind. It was great too because we got to skip the hour long queue at security which was helpful because they always spend a good 20 minutes at least going through my bags because I carry all my medication (two small suitcases worth!) in hand luggage. I honestly don't think I would've managed the walk to the gate and plane so I was so grateful for the help, I would say if you think you need special assistance at the airport don't hesitate or struggle for no reason because it made what is usually a difficult thing for me 100x easier. I can promise you no one stares or anything!

Have you ever been to Ireland? I couldn't recommend Donegal enough, it's such a beautiful place!

  9. I was in Dublin a couple a weeks ago and absolutely loved it even though it also rained the entire time and I only packed a leather jacket. I think we might go back and do a road trip around some more of Ireland soon and Donegal is absolutely on my list, Lizzie's Diner sounds amazing. Glad that you had a nice break and that special assistance was so helpful x

  27. Donegal looks beautiful and it looks and sounds like you had a great time. I love Ireland, there's just something about it that no matter where you go it just feels so homely. I've never been to Donegal before but I have family in Portlaoise which is pretty central so will have to see how far away it is next time I go. We have to do the same with my nan when she goes to Ireland and the airports are always so helpful, they always arrange like the little golf buggys for her and she loves it, ha ha! Hope you're feeling better soon :) xx

  36. I have about 30 pics of that baby donkey haha! It's a shame though because it was in an awful little pen with two other donkeys and a load of corrugated iron and general rubbish lying around. Horrible because surrounding the pen was loads of gorgeous green fields, I just wanted to set them free haha! Thank you x

  37. I've never been to Dublin! I would like to although all of my family totally dismiss it as it's not 'real' Ireland apparently haha. Lizzie's Diner is teeny but the food is just amazing and the staff are super friendly - it's like you're in someone's kitchen! Thank you x
