I'm not really a fan of Natalia Vodianova nor do I like pearls that much so I was surprised when I came across this image and fell in love. I find pearls to be dated and boring but these, these are different...a modern take on a classic, they're not delicate, they're strong and would just make an awesome statement peeking out of swept behind hair whilst still being subtle enough to keep in with my own style. After a little google research I discovered that she's wearing the Mise en Dior earrings...cue feelings of extreme disappointment and a desperate search for dupes. Within minutes I'd found these beauties on my good friend ASOS, for only a fiver too. A lot more subtle than the originals but that works better for me. I'd love to go the Dior route and wear them with clean lines and slicked back hair (a la Daisy...kudos to her for trying out such a tricky look and getting away with it so amazingly well!) but I just can't do it. So I'm going to go for a more casual look and wear them with simple sweaters, laidback denim and my usual scruffy hair, along with very minimal make up. The shape is what gives them the edge, which is all important when you're dealing with something as old fashioned as pearls. I like classic make up looks such as cat flicks and a red lip which I feel would just look too retro with them so I think a fresh face will help keep that punky feel.
I was glad to get in there quick as they appear to have sold out now...however ASOS often bring things back in stock so keep your eyes peeled out for them here!

They are so cool! And different, definitely update the classic (and perhaps, as you said, a little boring) pearl studs.
ReplyDeleteThe shape reminds me of a ring I have from Topshop, shown here http://thegravityandshe.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/dead-ring-er.html :)

ReplyDeleteI'm so lazy with earrings, often plumping for little star studs but seeing this has inspired me to try and be more innovative! <3
