Just thought I'd do a quick post today on a little duo I've been loving recently! My skin has been a little dry recently, it usually is because of all the medication I'm on and every day I'm spending who knows how long breathing in nebulised medicines so there's a lot of smoke around my face which dries it out. I work on a basement floor where it's either too air conditioned or too heated, add all of this to the horrendous cold weather we've been having and it's safe to say my skin has been in serious need of a bit of TLC! I'd been rather intrigued by facial oils for a while now after reading so many bloggers rave about them and when The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil appeared on Caroline's blog I thought I'd give it a go. Mainly because it's just £12 (unashamed cheapskate here!) and she said it was light which appealed to me because the thought of slapping on anything too oily on my face makes me cringe (I have a real thing about greasiness, I have to wash my hair every day in case it's the tiniest bit oily!) I also picked up The Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream as well because it was only £4 when you bought the oil. I've been using them for a couple of weeks now and am really impressed!
The first thing I'll talk about is the scent...I usually don't venture into The Body Shop very often because I just can't breathe in there and the few times I've used their products, such as the body butters, the scent has just been too much and has really put me off. Luckily these products are really inoffensive, to me they have that classic Nivea scent that I love so that's a big thumbs up from me straight away! You need just a couple of drops of oil (which has a little pipette thing so it's easy to get the amount you want) to cover your face and it absorbs really quickly which is handy because who wants to wait around for products to sink in when you could be sleeping? I've definitely noticed an improvement in the way my skin feels, that tight feeling I used to get has now completely gone which feels wonderful! My skin's overall appearance is also better, it's brighter with less redness...I find I'm using far less concealer than I used to. Basically, my skin feels happy! The moisturiser is also lovely, it's not greasy but it's very heavy so I only use a teeny bit every morning but unlike other day creams I've used in the past I find it's keeping my skin hydrated all day, even when I'm standing under a blasting air con. I like that it comes in a little pot too, I always squeeze out too much when it's in a tube and I like to see how much product I've got left as well. When the weather warms up I'll have to swap it for something lighter but for now it's perfect.
I've never been too impressed with The Body Shop's bodycare stuff and I'd never really viewed them as a brand to go to when it came to skincare but I'm definitely eating my words with this stuff. I'm sure there are better oils out there but if, like me, you've never tried one before and are a bit wary I think this is a good place to start!

I've been using Body Shop's Vitamin E cream since forever but I'd really like to try this serum! I currently have a few squirts left of my Rodial one (I know, real fannncy) but this will be the next one on my to buy list. HealGel looks good too but right now I'd prefer something more affordable!

I love TBS skincare, they're one of my favourite brands alongside Good Things, Amie and Simple- all lovely and natural! My skin is on the oily-er side, so I don't think the serum would be good for me. I do get some dryness on my cheeks and forehead sometimes though, so the face cream might be good to try! xx
ReplyDeleteI bought this on Friday and I'm totally loving it! I used the vitamin E range in the past and liked it but this stuff is great :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely! I have dry skin too so I might give it a try :) xx
ReplyDeleteGreat and thorough review Josie, it sounds like an excellent skin treatment, nourishing and moisturizing, Id love to try it when winter hits. Thanks for sharing your opinion on my last post.
ReplyDeleteIntrigued by the facial oil - I too hate having anyting greasy on my face and most facial oils are very expensive too. Sounds like the body shop one is just perfect for anyone looking to try facial oils for the first time.

ReplyDeleteIt's on offer atm for £11! It's already cleared up the scarring I had on my face after a week! Impressed aswell! Xx
Sounds great - glad you've found something that's helping. Having crappy skin is the worst! Gaaaah I love the nivea smell too...it smells so clean and fresh!

Oooooo....that serum-in-oil sounds really good. I'll check it out next time I go in there. I like some Body Shop items, like their cocoa butters.
ReplyDeleteI love facial oils and serums! I always use the Botanics facial oil and it seems to pretty much be on offer every time I go into Boots :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI need to get in a face beauty routine, I am so careless when it comes to my skin but always put so much effort and money into hair products

I might have to try this out, especially as it's not gonna break the bank! haha I'd just worry that I'd have a massive break! xxx
ReplyDeleteI used to use Body Shop stuff all the time, as I worked for them. I've not been in the store for a while but did go to a party. Glad you've found something to suit your skin. It can be really difficult to find the right products.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of these very much! I have a bit of a thing for Vitamin E; the moisturiser I use is full of it and I really find it settles into my skin nicely!

Well, I guess it's the never say never situation. :) Thank you for the review and intro to the products. I don't often stop by the Body Shop for the same reason you don't, but will remember this duo. :)
